Spectrum Occupancy Survey In HULL-UK For Cognitive Radio Applications: Measurement & Analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
Efficient use of the radio spectrum is a necessity for future wireless systems. Cognitive Radio (CR) systems promise large inc reases in spectral efficiency. An important design constraint for systems is understanding of the current use of frequency bands which may be used by future CR systems. This paper describes a set of spectrum occupancy measurements performed in Hull, UK, in November 2012 and proposes long-term studies in a single location. Observations provide evidence that the licensed spectrum is far from fully utilized in frequency. Measurements provide evidence of the spectral efficiency benefits that may be accrued by the dynamic reuse of the available spectrum. Such improved usage could break the current spectrum availability bottleneck. The measurement method is based on the energy detection principle.

Spectrum Occupancy Survey in Leicester, UK, For Cognitive Radio Application
Cognitive radio (CR) technology has emerged as a promising solution to many wireless communication problems including spectrum scarcity and underutilization. Knowing the current state of spectrum utilization in frequency, time and spatial domain will enhance the implementation of CR network. In this paper, we evaluate the spectrum utilization of some selected bands in Leicester city, UK; based ...
متن کاملTime series modelling of spectrum occupancy for cognitive radio
Cognitive radio requires real time monitoring of the spectrum to determine the frequency of transmission. Spectrum analysers tend to employ a slow frequency sweep and hence such measurements can only be used for modelling of the spectrum, which can provide vital information for frequency planning and management. Occupancy measurements every hour over a seven-day period were performed in the UK ...
متن کاملSpectrum Occupancy in Realistic Scenarios and Duty Cycle Model for Cognitive Radio
Most of the spectrum occupancy measurement campaigns performed to the date in the context of cognitive radio are based on measurements in outdoor high points such as building roofs, balconies and towers. Although these measurement scenarios enable a more accurate estimation of the primary transmitters’ spectral activity, they may not be representative of the spectrum occupancy perceived by a co...
متن کاملChicago Spectrum Occupancy Measurements & Analysis and a Long-term Studies Proposal
This paper describes spectrum occupancy measurements performed in Chicago, IL in November 2005 and proposes long-term studies in multiple locations. The Chicago project consisted of deploying a high dynamic range spectrum measurement system, a data collection and processing system and conducting spectrum occupancy measurements in all bands between 30 MHz and 3,000 MHz (see Figure 1). These meas...
متن کاملSpectrum Occupancy Analysis for Cognitive Radio
Observations provide evidence that the licensed spectrum is by far not fully used neither in time nor in space. Cognitive radio, which can sense its environment and location and then alter its frequency, modulation and other parameters so as to dynamically reuse the available spectrum, could break the current spectrum availability bottleneck. The fundamental aspect to the success of such techno...
